Biography
Mathias Schwaiger Pearson (2000), from Kristiansand in Norway, began playing the cello at the age of 8 years with Maia Brikeland as teacher. In 2014, after audition, he won a place in the Talent Development Programme at the
University in Agder, Music Conservatory. He was leader of the cello group of the Rogaland County Youth Symphony Orchestra (2016-2018). He also participated in the Norwegian Youth Symphony Orchestra (2015-2018), where he was solo cellist in 2018. He has played as soloist with Agder Symphony Orchestra and solo recitals in
Kristiansand, including Summer concerts in the foajé of Kilden Concert and
Theatre Halls.
In 2017, Pearson was granted a scholarship from LOS (Agder Power Company) to attend the summer Oxford
Cello School in England where he participated in masterclasses and workshops with among others
Raphael Wallfish and Leandro Silvera. He has also attended the Peter de Grote Festival Summer Academy in
Groningen, The Netherlands in 2018 and 2019.
In 2018 he began studying for a Bachelor in Cello Performance with Jan-Ype Nota at The Royal Conservatory in
The Hague, The Netherlands. In 2020 he started a Minor degree in Chamber Music with his Piano Trio,
receiving weekly lessons from the Osiris Trio. Through the Concervatoire he has recieved masterclasses (solo
and chamber music) from Harro Ruijsenaars, Patrick Jüdt, Arisa Fujita and members of “Cuartetto Casals”.
In 2018 he won first prize in the Youth Classical Talent Competitions in Arendal, Norway, and a Kristiansand
Community Educational Scholarship for Young Artists.
