About Us

The Brioso Trio met during their studies at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague and began playing together in September 2019. Very soon, a strong dedication and enthusiasm for the piano trio emerged. Brioso (lively, full of fire) became not only their name, but also the true identity of the ensemble. After a cherished period with co-founder and pianist Mieke Verduijn, the trio has continued since 2025 with pianist Jurn Tjoa, alongside violinist Martine Velthuis and cellist Mathias Pearson.

Over the past few years, the trio has performed at various concert venues including Concertgebouw de Vereeniging, Nijmegen and Amare, The Hague. They have won prizes at various national and international competitions, including the third prize at the chamber music competition of Virtuoso & Belcanto Festival in Lucca, in 2023, and the third prize at Chamber Music Competition Gelre, 2022.

In March 2023, the trio embarked on their first concert tour in Norway. During their participation in the Virtuoso & Belcanto Festival in the summer of 2023, the trio was selected to take part in a special masterclass with Alfred Brendel. They also attended lessons in Lucca with Bruno Giuranna, Adrian Brendel, and others. Additionally, the trio participated three times in the European Chamber Music Academy where they immersed themselves in the international chamber music world for a week by attending workshops, masterclasses, and participating in concerts. They received masterclasses from renowned musicians such as Michel Strauss, Hatto Beyerle, Patrick Jüdt, Karla Haltenwanger, and members of Cuarteto Casals.

The trio pursued both the minor and master specialization in chamber music during their studies at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague. They had the opportunity to participate in special projects, including a collaboration with the dance department of the conservatory. During the minor, they received weekly lessons from members of the Osiris Trio (Ellen Corver, Peter Brunt, and Larissa Groeneveld). Additionally, they took lessons with Mikhail Zemstov, Slava Poprugin, and Janet Krause.

At the moment, the trio is regularly coached by Mathieu van Bellen, violinist of the Busch Trio.
